Pace incompetent
Apparently it's supposed to be some sort of scandal that Harry Reid told a bunch of bloggers that he thought Peter Pace was incompetent and that none of them reported it. This could, I suppose, be some sort of huge well-networked conspiracy. Also possible, though, is that none of them reported it because it's really really obvious. And because it's not exactly newsworthy that the Senate's leading Democrat and one of the war's most visible opponents would say it.
If we're going to concern ourselves administration competence vis-a-vis Iraq, then obviously the president should be the main focus. No matter how loudly he insists that his strategy is to "listen to the generals," it would, in a sane world, be up to him to fix things like wars when they fail. But either the strategy came from Pace or it didn't, and you can conclude a lot from that tautology. If this all really was Pace's plan, then he's incompetent. If he had a different, likely better plan, but didn't say anything then he's...incompetent. Likewise, if he doesn't think gays should serve in the military, then he's incompetent. If he thinks gays should serve in the military but says the opposite on television, then he's incompetent. And when Harry Reid states the obvious and reporters and conservative bloggers try to scandalize him for it, then they're....
Let's remember Gates fired Pace, not Reid. We now have a War Czar, SecDef and an incoming Chair of the Joint Chiefs who are all skeptical of the surge.
What does that tell ya?
