One of Congress's most nefarious republicans, Darrell Issa, thinks it's about time to talk to Syria. And not in that George-Bush-patented we're-gonna-run-roughshod-over-the-region-and-we-expect-you-not-to-make-a-fuss-about-it way. Issa is half-Christian-Lebanese, so his perspective is particularly interesting, at least to me. And apparently his trip to Damascus is not an act of treason according to his fellow Republicans who, as we well know, are the ones who get to decide these things.
I think he went to Syria to sell car alarms. Or to reprise his car theft/insurance fraud scheme:
"Republican Rep. Darrell Issa, the driving force behind the effort to recall Gov. Gray Davis, was prosecuted with his brother in San Jose in 1980 for allegedly faking the theft of Issa's Mercedes Benz sedan and selling it to a car dealer for $16,000, according to court records."
