For anybody (and this should include all D.C. readers) unimpressed with the state of D.C. Mexican food, allow me to recommend a Peruvian chicken shack in Mt. Pleasant aptly named Pollo Sabroso. In addition to to their (what else) delicious chicken, then now feature Mexican style tacos that are as good as any I've had since leaving California, and better than many I enjoyed when I actually lived there. They even have cool meats like tongue and head, so if you're willing to face down the risk of prion disease, you should all head down there and eat tons of them.
Are you SURE they are serving chicken? Could be cat or rat or whatever, which some say are tasty too, but shall we say 'unesthetic', as in tongue or organ-meat.
I like my animal protein unidentifiable, in nicely trimmed chunks of muscle that can't be traced to a part of the anatomy. Call me squeamish. Cultural bias is the thing, for sure. But wiggling meal-worms, or grasshoppers? No way. I really should be a vegetarian, but I love steak or prime rib too much.
