New York-triumphalist blogger Ben Adler calls me a suburban triumphalist blogger. Ouch.
A more accurate description, however, would be that' I'm a suburban-raised, city-dwelling, urbanist blogger, who almost never blogs about urbanism and who thinks it's both ironic and sad that California's powering ahead of New York so quickly when such a liberal and densely populated city ought to be leading the environmentalist charge. Makes you wonder whether the New York-style of politics and culture that New York-triumphalist bloggers like Ben Adler herald so tirelessly are really...what do the kids say these days?... all that?
In other news, upon a careful gazing, my navel looks...dark.
I don't understand. Are you talking about New York State vs. California? Or is this an old fashioned NYC vs. LA argument?
Either way, though, I'm with you. Adler basically seems to be saying "It's cute that California's trying to help the environment. Lucky for us, though, NY is perfect as it is."

Well, it's actually a muddled debate. I'm sort of foolishly comparing dense urban policy in NYC with broad state policy in CA. But however you look at it (city level or state level) the CA side is winning these days.
That said, I grew up near LA, generally think it gets a bad rap, but still prefer NYC.

We'll see if California builds High Speed Rail or not before calling it for California.
